Wise or Intelligent: Which would you rather be?

One of my favorite Bible stories is about King Solomon and the two mothers claiming for the same baby. Since God has blessed King Solomon with wisdom, he was able to identify the real mother from the false one. How? He tested the two women by telling them he would just tore the baby into 2 pieces so he can give each of them a half. Of course, being the real mother, one of them pleaded him not to do so and instead give it to the other one claiming the boy (who, by the way, agreed to King Solomon’s statement about cutting the boy in half). What does this story prove?

Most of us are fortunate enough to attend school. Some of us even had the chance to be in one of the most prestigious academies per say. We have been taught about language, science, mathematics, literature, arts and other things that can be put into good use as we grow older. Yes, I agree that good schools can provide us all of the knowledge that we need in the future, but does attending school alone make us wise? One can be so good in math or science, but doesn’t even know how to deal with simple things such as peer pressure; he can have achieved all the academic goals that he had set for himself, but can’t even have control over his own life, and instead let other people influence him and transformed him into one of them, he can’t even make decisions on his own, seeking advices from those who can ruin him. They even included good manners and right conduct into our curriculum from grade school until we finished senior high school, but not all of us have learned to respect our neighbors, or be polite to our elderly. Thus, I don’t believe that being in the best school there is in town is enough; there are those who didn’t even finish college but are able to withstand these affecting factors, can make logical decisions on their own, and know what is right from wrong, doesn’t listen to those who can’t even straighten out their acts. Yes, academic classes aren’t sufficient; one has to use his common sense that has been sharpened by life experiences.

So I’d rather be wise than be book-smart. These are just my thoughts.

true. there are those who graduated from the most expensive schools, but are being told by others what to do, they have no ability to decide logically on their own. while some say being in a catholic school helps mold a child to become more polite and courteous of others, but i know someone who doesn't even know how to respect an elderly related to her.
